After 55 years of marriage, 99-year-old Luther Younger is still deeply devoted to his wife, Waverlee, whom he calls his sweetest cup of tea.
Luther walks six miles and back every day in the heat, rain and snow to visit Waverlee in the hospital.
Waverlee was diagnosed with a brain tumor nine years ago. With Waverlee in the hospital with pneumonia, Luther has made it a part of his daily routine to walk to her.
He could wait for his daughter Lutheta to give him a ride, or take the bus, but he doesn't want to. He says he likes to walk because it clears his mind.
“People tell me to act my age — yeah, right. They're jealous because I don't drink, I don't smoke, because it's no good. I wouldn't be here [if I did]," he says.
"She is a beautiful lady and she treats me as a person is supposed to be ... she made a man out of me," he says about his wife. "That's why I love her, because she's tough."
The couple met in a laundromat and got married. Though Lutheta is the couple's only child together, Waverlee had helped raise her husband's kids from a previous relationship.
"She wasn't easy. She was the type of person, if you didn't work, you got to go. And I had to work. That's why I'm sticking with her, because if it hadn't been for my wife, I wouldn't have made it."
